Inverary Jail Break

Joanne receives second prize;
with the turret in the background
On Sunday I headed to Inveraray for the Jail Break. I had seen the pictures on their facebook page and it looked great. A low key event, but very well organised with wanted posters in each runners name etc which increased the novelty factor and the appeal. The course was about 7k - start out side the jail, through the streets towards the castle, then start climbing about the 2k marker, I lasted to about 3k and then walked between 3k and 4k which was the top. The leaders were streaming past me about 3.5k, including Joanne who had managed to get in after being on the waiting list (strange as there were people entering on the day). Once you get round the turret on the grassy area at the top you are on the steep decent, running as fast as you can on the loose stones underfoot. Luckily you don't go all the way back to the jail and finish about 1k shorter in front of the castle. I finished in 40.38, well and truly knackered. Joanne on the other hand managed to break the senior female course record in 35.33...just a pity the girl who was 5 seconds in front did too...so she had to settle for a second place.
All in all a great race and I'm going to have to add it to my running calendar for next year.

Well done George and Joanne for seeking out an interesting but tough wee race. A great run by Joanne too demonstrating an aptitude for the hills!
