This problem was fixed by Google on Friday. Didn't get round to posting the instructions to fix until now (note that although the post talks about Samsung phones, this will work on any Android phone). Android Fix
I believe iPhone users may already have a fix.
If Garmin Connect is crashing when you try to open an activity in detail view, don't worry, you are not alone. Garmin advise that it is a problem introduced by Google Maps integration and Google are working on solving it. So no need to reinstall or do anything. Just try every so often and make sure you check for app updates from Google and Garmin and install any if they arise. (Strava have put a warning message in their app which relates to the same problem).
