Lanarkshire Road Relay Results

Yes, believe it! Calderglen women's team had a "Fruitful" afternoon at the Lanarkshire Road Relays at Drumpellier Park on Saturday, running to a strong second place and a silver championship medal. A change to the usual running order seemed to bring the best out of everyone with Mary Goldsmith taking the club to 3rd place on the first leg (17:36), Sandra Reid moving the club on to 2nd place (17:23) before Frances Maxwell (17:03) took about 80 seconds out of the leaders (Cambuslang) but couldn't quite catch them.

The men were well represented with 3 and half teams out. Just back from his holidays, Jamie McMonagle (8th in 14:30) was on the A team first leg but struggled to hold off the in form Scot Hill (6th 14:23) who was first leg for the B team. Thereafter, Davy Watt restored the normal team order (4th 13:27), handing over well clear to Alan Derrick (4th 13:37). Although Stuart Gibson (13:15) pulled back a minute on 3rd place, the gap was just too big and 4th was the finishing position behind Shettleston, Cambuslang and Law. The B team finished 9th - S Hill (14:23), Alan Cullie (15:54), George Stewart (15:39) and Eddie Reid (15:03). Many of the members of the C team are challenging to move up a team, such is the strength in depth. Ian Rae was first off (16:03), then David Herbertson (15:31), Jim Holmes (15:43) and Graham Allan (18:07), finishing 12th. Finally, a rare appearance by Colin Jarvie (17:25) and a reasonably happy Russell Couper (20:09) rounded off the Harriers' representation.
