Fifteen senior harriers made there way to Cambuslang for the 10k Down by the river race. There were several kids doing the 3k race too but no results available for that yet.
It was a warmish day and felt really warm when the sun was on you. After various warm ups we were ready for the off. Pre race briefing done and we were away. A 2.5k loop round the industrial estate offers good flat running to allow you to settle into a good steady pace before some of the undulations on the out and back part of the riverside path. These are only gentle undulations so allow for some fast running. This part of the course also allows you to see at the turning point how far you are in front or behind others and also gave me the chance to see how well the other Harriers are performing and performing they where. First Harrier I seen on the return was Andrew Buchanan going at a really good pace and not a million miles off the lead finishing in a new PB of 36.46. Next was Jim Holmes and Martin Howell coming to the finish line neck and neck with Jim just coming out on top 43.15 and 43.16 respectively. Good to see Martin out racing again and posting a good time. Another returning to some good form next was Stuart Waugh finishing in 44.15. Results went a bit dodgy after this but ive been able to extrapolate the following from Kenny Philips photos and others declared times.
Next in and continuing on his superb season was Richard Lawton in a new PB of 45.08 made all the better with the fact Richard ran from East Kilbride and back again later completing over 17miles with a 10k PB in the middle. Our first lady came in next Kay Conneff but for the second week in a row is not on the results but should be on the finalised results 45.12. Second lady next in was Frances Ferguson and returning to some previous form with a time of 45.54. Back to the men now and also continuing an increase in form was Gordon McInally finishing in 46.38. Another who hasn't been able to race much but posting a great time was John Boyd in 48.51. Russell Couper next with a good time aided from increased milage in 54.33. I had a fast first 5k but lost about 2mins in the second 5k and was getting reeled in by Julie Thomson who finished third Harrier lady in a time of 54.54. Not far behind running her debut was Holly Rankin finishing superbly in 55.56. Next in was Sandy Hayden who the day before had run over Conic hill. Not ideal preparation for a 10k race finishing in 57.05.
Finally returning from injury was Lorraine Buchanan finishing well in 61.59.
Many thanks to all that came out to support us today. Too many to mention as I'm sure I would miss some so thanks to all you know who you are.
