It was an exceptionally busy weekend for the Harriers with the above races which meant all age groups within the club were participating . Club President Frances Maxwell secured a well deserved firstfemale in the 5 k Strathclyde Park Run in a time of 21 :35 . Also taking part in this race were father and son Scot and Stuart Hill . Scot completed the course in 19:29 ( 7th overall)while young Stuart ran a fantastic 27:54 opting for this event rather than The Great Scottish Junior Run.
Glasgow Green was the venue for the GSR Junior Run which for the second year had races at 1.5 km and 3 km. In the shorter race Emma Lawton was 15th in a time of 5:24 followed by Wren Millar in 6:52 then Kirsty McMonagle in 8:02. All three girls are 9 years old.
In the 3k race Ian Rae (14) crossed the finishing line in 12:05 and was 89th. Next was Alistair Crawford (12) only thirty nine seconds behind. Lewis Miller (11) produced a fine 13:08 and Drew Gordon (11) followed in 14:24. The only girl from the club Emma Phimister (10) reached the finish on 16:56 while Mark Rae (11) followed on 21:36.
As the Indian summer continued from Saturday to Sunday there was great anticipation amongst the Harriers ranks. Choosing the 10 k race another father and son ,this time Charlie and Brian McDougall , departed the start at George Square amongst 10,000 other runners. Charlie clocked 36:50 at the finish on Glasgow Green while Brian on 40:45 will no doubt be running a sub 40 minute 10 k very soon. Also running the 10 k were Ann McLellan (71:19) and Elizabeth Ann Jamieson (69:) who are both mothers of two of the clubs young athletes, respectively Hannah and Lee.
The main event of the weekend was the half marathon which this year proved to be more popular than ever and with thousands of supporters lining the streets it was reminiscent of the marathon boom years of the early 1980's.
Jim Holmes running this race for the 17th consecutive year can now see a sub 90 minute half marathon in his sights finishing on 1:32:57 although he would agree there is a bit of work to be done yet. Also running for the same number of years (or is it 18 consecutive years ?) Dave Searil ran a consistent 1:56:18. Whether or not they can match such a feat the race also so half marathon debuts for Stephen Phimister (1:39:40), Michael Daly (1:52:01), Laura McConnell (2:04:58) and from the Tuesday section Jennifer Fegan (2:25:43). Familiar faces at this race and also from the Tuesday section Caroline Dewar (1:57:12) and Mhairi Steven (1:58:29) found to conditions to their liking.
It was also fantastic to see Julie Beveridge who only came to the club last week running a fine 1:45:49 and some old faces like George Haining (1:36:04) and Ivan Field (1:35:09) running with the current Harriers like Graham Lindsay (1:39.01),Colin Banks (1:39:41) , John McBride (1:49:04) , Mary Goldsmith (1:49:33) and Davie Wardrope (1:50:31).
Comfortably below 2 hours were Alison Crooks (1:55:00) and Ian McKenzie (1:52:31) while just outside it were Chas Steven ( 2:02:35) and Claire Brady (2:05:58) . This race marked the 25 th anniversary for Chas since he ran the 1985 Glasgow Marathon an event which introduced him to distance running and to Calderglen Harriers . A journey which he claims has been very rewarding. He would have been only 14 years old back in September 1985 and more interested in looking like Lloyd Cole ( if recent Facebook comments are anything to go by) but Graham Ramage cast aside any nerves on the day and ran a superb 1:40:34.
Husband and wife Brian and Carol Bourke , parent helpers on a Wednesday night, were delighted with thier times. Carol ran 1:58:41 while Brian ran a stunning 1:27:47. The only message to them is get signed up to the Harriers now !
Please accept my apologies if I have missed anyone out from this report and feel free to add your name and time in the comments box below. All I can say is with all these adults running we should not have any problem selling all the dance tickets or filling the Brampton bus .

This was also my 17th Glasgow Half Marathon in a row (18 in total) although on Sunday I felt I had ran them all one after an other.
michael daly 01:52:01 could'nt find anyone at the end
What a fantastic turnout from the club over the weekend and many impressive performances too. Well done to Chas for finding all the Harriers in the results sheet; no easy task!
Alan
As half marathon first-timers, Laura McConnell and I were very pleased to make over the line in one piece! I ran it in 2hrs 4mins 57 secs. We also managed to get the harriers' colours in the middle pages of The Sun today!
Chas,
Emma was the fastest 9 year girl in Glasgow over the 1.5K race. So she is due to get age group prize from the race organisers. Great for the Harriers and for Emma.
Richard
Found another Harrier ! Monique McAdams from the Tuesday night section ran 2:26:58. Another fantastic half marathon debut.
ps apologies to Kirsty Findlater as I knew you were doing the race but could not remember your name.
Also in 2011 if everyone enters the club name on your entry it makes finding times a lot easier. I know there were some problems with this on line but hopefully it will be resolved for next year.
