A few of the Harriers made the early journey down to Helensburgh to take part in the half marathon, which promised good times for everyone with it’s flat course. The rain seemed to be holding off but as the first mile was reached the heavens opened and everyone appeared to be running through a wall of water.
These tough conditions had little effect on Andrew Buchanan who crossed the line in a fantastic PB of 1:19:08. Gerry McParland, taking part in his last senior race, had another great time of 1:22:11 while Scot Hill took over a minute off his previous PB to finish in 1:24:15. Stephen Reilly’s time of 1:25:22 showed another fine performance for a junior in half marathon. David Herbison’s race times continued to drop as he completed the course in 1:32:48 (still to be confirmed), yet another PB.
Unfortunately, Stuart Waugh had to pull out of the race, due to a back injury, at about 10 mile.
One of the plus sides of the race was the free swim in the nearby pool that every runner was entitled to, which everyone took advantage of. Thanks to all who supported the runners and endured the rain to cheer everyone on.
