Barrhead 10k

This is the 3rd year of this 10K event but with growing amount of new races appearing in the race season calendar events gets double booked so reduces number of runners in attendance (Stirling 10K and our own Trossach’s weekend to mention a few this weekend). However there were 231 runners taking part in today’s event and high number of them unattached but still providing good competition and challenge. Most of the run was a rural in the back roads of Barrhead not so dissimilar to the Auldhouse roads in EK.

The first 5K was uphill leaving from Cowan Park onto Aurs Rd then into Springfield Rd up towards “the famous Craigie hill” then the next 2½ K was downhill followed by the final hill by St Luke’s High School and then after the wide curve at the top of Aurs Rd, a fantastic, long, straight and fast downhill section, leading back to Cowan park and the finish line.

I would recommend the race as it is has a tough and challenging route and don’t forget enjoyable however my time of 51mins 12secs wasn’t my best so roll on winter training and hill sprints to get faster for next year!

Thanks to Richard Lawton for the race report.
