Good morning,
My name is Gary McEwan and I am a sport and exercise
scientist from Oriam - Scotland's Sports Performance Centre. I am currently
completing some research in partnership with the University of the West of
Scotland and was wondering if it would be of interest to any of your members?
The research is looking at the effects of self-regulated recovery periods during high-intensity interval training (HIIT) and we are looking for recreationally active males aged between 17 and 45. The study involves four short visits (~45 minutes) to the UWS campus based in Hamilton. During the first visit, participants are asked to complete a VO2MAX test where their maximum oxygen uptake is calculated. When done independently, these tests can cost in excess of £100. In the subsequent three sessions, participants are asked to complete a high-intensity interval training session where a number of physiological measurements are obtained. These include heart rate, blood lactate and neuromuscular fatigue. Also, just to clarify, blood lactate is obtained via simple finger prick samples and not venous samples. Participants will also receive a comprehensive feedback report with analysis of their results on completion of the study as well as how this data can be used to further individualise the training process.
Best wishes,
Gary
