I was just thinking (always dangerous) that, owing to the remoteness of the course, as a minimum,
each runner should carry their mobile ‘phone and have the numbers of both the preceding and
succeeding runners. This will enable an early warning of breakdowns/traffic problems which might
see one or more of us carrying on beyond a changeover point until relieved (a la Davie Watt on the
WHW, although hopefully not that far!) or of injury/illness out on the course. Always remembering
that there will be more than a few signal blackspots out there.

As Russell suggested we can make transport arrangements, swap numbers, etc. on Thursday night but if you won’t be at the club then please endeavour to obtain the numbers you need. It would also greatly help planning if all runners, apart from leg 5 (obviously), estimate their expected running time.

PS If you are not able to make Thursday night please add your estimated time as a comment below along with any other thoughts/suggestions/brainwaves for the day.

I was trying to work out very roughly when my changeover would be but since it's L5 and the course is very varied my estimate may be considerably wayward. Your idea of comms of some description is on the money for me.
Hi Everyone,
I think everyone has to realise that with any relay, you have to be prepared to spend a lot of time standing about waiting on your turn to run. It is only fair to the other runners in your team that no one risks blowing it for the rest of the team by not being there to take over. We cannot give you a precise time of when to be there, especially when the teams comprise runners of varied ability, some of whom don't race very often and who are racing over legs of varying distances. It is your responsibility to be there well in advance. Of all the long-distance relays the club has competed in over the years (and there have been many, all over the country and indeed the world), this is perhaps the easiest one as it is on our door-step and is only 5 per team, so not a lot to coordinate and there is no excuse for not being there in time. We should be able to get it right and have everyone in place well in advance of their run (I would suggest be there at least 45 minutes in advance of our earliest possible estimate of incoming runner arrival to allow time for a professional warm-up. That means assuming 6 minutes per mile for each member of the fastest team and 7 minutes per mile for each member of the slower teams and being there 45 minutes ahead of whatever that works out at. Don't try to be any more sophisticated than that). Remember also that club vests must be worn by all runners. If everyone competing could be at the club tonight and work it out amongst yourselves. I may not be back from Sweden in time.

I won't be at the club tonight. I've had a cold all week so difficult to know how it will go. Somewhere between 7.5 min and 8.5 min miles (81-91 mins). Mobile number is 07866984759. Will park car in Strathaven, so will need transport back to start at some point. See you Sunday.jim
We have been given five numbers for your vests....i have all our team, chas his and Davie s his team. My number is 07825 235 260. Worst case i will carry the numbers while i run and we can pass them on.
