Grand Prix Updated

Frances stretches clear in both the GP and scratch championship after the National. In the men's competitions, Eddie Reid now leads both. 10 races into the series and 5 men have done them all and earned a further bonus joker (and had their season max jokers increased by one too). It is still all to play for.

The next race in the Grand Prix series is the Jack Crawford, Springburn Cup 10k on Saturday 12th March, Bishopbriggs. Details on Scottish Athletics web site.

hi Alan, after run on monday I got a chest infection.Went to doctor and he said that with the Tietze's Syndrome, excessive exercise will make it worse. he has advised that I do not run for 6 months. Given that I have had 3 chest infections since Nov, then reluctantly I will need to take his advice. Sorry.Keep up the hard training sessions for all! Neil Green

Neil,

That is very unfortunate. I'm not convinced that 6 months off is the optimum solution though. By the time you start back it will be coming into Winter and you will be sucking cold air into your lungs again. I'd give it a few weeks to clear up your chest infection then just try some low intensity running indoors on a treadmill (we have treadmills at the sports club) until the weather warms up. Someone as fit as you can run slowly without breathing hard so you shouldn't irritate your lungs. However you will keep your muscles, joints, tendons and heart in good shape. Come up on club nights and run on the treadmill.
